Recommended temperature and time for rosin pressing

Dec 5, 2018 - 3:18 PM

  • What would be optimal temperature/time settings for pressing rosin? I would appreciate any advice since I am new to it. I am planning on pressing flower and keif.

  • It depends on many things, like strain, freshness, moisture content of your buds, etc. It's not exact science, but you can use general guidelines:

    • For flowers: temperature 190 - 220F for 15 to 50 sec.
    • For keif: Temp. 170 - 200F for 20 to 50 seconds.
    • For bubble hash: 150 - 190F for 20 to 50 sec.

  • Jeff's pressing data:
11 grams of White Widow flower (30 day cured, pre-pressed)
    Temperature: 200F
    Time: 90 seconds
2 runs with the DW6000 press.

  • Thanks Kevin. I will probably start with small a amount of sift at 155f. Should I use a filter bag?

  • I would start with flower first and then work your way to sift. Test a little at a time at different temperatures until you get a feel of it. Regarding filter bags, you may not need to use a filter bag with this model. Parchment paper is quite sufficient.

  • Thanks. What do you guys recommend doing with the pressed flower? Can you reuse it?

  • You can use in cooking. I wouldn't smoke pressed nugs.

  • Higher temps give a higher yield, however lower temps preserve more terpenes and give a more almost Snow like consistency opposed to higher temps which the rosin gets a bit gooier and shatter like.

Personally, I like to press around 185-210 F for 1.5 - 3 minutes; usually, it ends up being around 2.30 depending on my starting material. Don't forget you can always double press your bags/pucks too and then make em into some nice edibles!

It's best to figure what works for your press and material, there's not a set temp / time that is the best. Lower tonnage presses generally you want a longer press.

On my DE1005 I usually press around 205 for 3 miniutes
but on my DW6000 I press anywhere from 190-215 for 2.5 mins

  • Hi, I bought a Heat Plate Kit, 3x 6 DHPK36 to put on a 20 ton press, we lost the manual. Does anyone have one they uploaded to PDF?

Also, we pressed an ounce of grounded flower in a 90 micron 2.5X 4.5 nylon bag (double bagged) at 175 degrees for 3 minutes and nothing happened. So disappointed, does anyone know what I might have done wrong?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Hi Susan, please send me either your order # or email address associated with your order to rosin@dulytek.com? I will forward you a copy of the manual. Regarding your question, I am trying to guess here. The quality of the flower could have been the source of the problem. It could have been too dry. The optimal humidity level is supposed to be at 62%. Have you tried to press the same flower in a single bag?

  • I have gotten good results at 190f 240 seconds. Let it sit on the plate and heat up for a few seconds before you start applying pressure slowly apply the pressure don’t rush it. For Sift I have only tried once at 215f 240 sec didn’t get good results maybe more heat is needed

  • Your not suppose to grind it ive read, they say to break it up by hand (wear gloves) remove stems as many as you can. 175 might be to low off a temp for an ounce
